The Rotary Club of Kampala has donated a multi million water project to the water-stressed community in Bududa district.
Despite being a source of several rivers, Bududa is one of the water stressed districts due to limited traditional safe water sources such as springs, a factor attributed to the hilly terrain.
Buwashi parish in Bukalasi subcounty is one of the areas that continue to face water crisis.
Residents rely on one protected spring which serves more than 200 people.
Locals spend long at the spring due to the low volume and pressure of water against the high demand.
The situation becomes worse during the dry season.
Yet this may be confined to history following the donation of a multi million gravity flow water project by Rotary Club of Kampala North.
The project was flagged off by a team of Rotarians from Kampala North led by the Deputy Governor of Bank of Uganda, Dr Louis Kasekende and Nile breweries chief executive officer, Mark Ocitti.
Wilson Watila, the district chairperson said that there is still a safe water coverage gap in the district despite ongoing government interventions.
Watila applauded the Rotary Club for the project adding that it will ease government's burden of providing safe water.
The area woman MP Justine Khainza said the project will save the mothers and the girl child who have been trekking long distances to get water.
