The formation of the NRM Buganda Caucus at Kyankwanzi has led to sharp divisions among Buganda legislators with opposition MPs who belong to the wider Buganda Caucus saying it is a ploy to divide Buganda further.

On Monday, the NRM MPs meeting at Kyankwanzi announced the formation of another Buganda Caucus which is chaired by Kabula MP, James Kakooza.

Yet this is parallel to the one chaired by Mukono South MP, Johnson Muyanja Ssenyonga which includes MPs from the opposition. Ssenyonga has been viewed as hostile to the party.

"NRM wants to weaken Buganda by dividing its MPs. This decision was done in bad faith and we shall fight it," said Mathias Mpuuga, the Masaka Municipality MP.

Other MPs like Luttamaguzi Ssemakula of Nakaseke South said they were ready to fight the new caucus.

"We cannot allow NRM to divide us. We shall not accept it," said Luttamaguzi.

At the NRM retreat, the MPs also elected a new Bunyoro Parliamentary Caucus "overthrowing" the chairperson Barnabas Tinkasimire, who is considered to be a rebel MP.

The MPs elected Buliisa MP, Stephen Mukitale as the new chairperson.

Tinkasimire said he would resist the change because the MPs had abrogated the constitution of the Bunyoro Caucus.
