The charges were read to him before the Wakiso magistrates court.

It is alleged by the prosecution that Mwebe, Kalungi and other still at large participated in the planning and later murder of Kirumira and Mbabazi in Bulenga last year.

According to prosecution, Mwebe rode the motorcycle used by assailants to the scene and later for fleeing after showering Kirumira’s vehicle with several rounds of bullets.

Magistrate Noah Sajjabi adjourned the matter to March 13 before remanding Mwebe to Kigo government prison.

Barely a month after the brutal murder of ASP Muhammad Kirumira last year, the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence(CMI) and police in a joint operation  raided an alleged  terror cell in Namungoona, Rubaga division in Kampala in which nine suspects were said to have been  arrested and one of them dead shot dead during the operation.

The nine suspects arrested during the operation have however never been arraigned in courts of law.

President Museveni would later praise the CMI   for busting the terror cell leading to killing of one Abdul Kateregga, suspected to have been part of the group that killed Kirumira.

“I am sure I am speaking on behalf of many of you when I congratulate the CMI squads which arrested a number of suspects in the killing of ASP Kirumira on Friday night,”Museveni said in October last year.

He said that one of the suspects arrested during the operation was a former Allied Democratic Forces member who had been granted amnesty by government.

“In the process, one of them, by the names of Abdu Kateregga was shot and later died of his injuries. It turns out that Kateregga was one of the ADF terrorists that had benefited from Amnesty in the past.”

“This, therefore, is to put on notice all the killers that the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23 ).”
