The Bishop of the Diocese of Kigezi, Rt Rev Gaddie Akanjuna, has urged newly ordained clergy to remain steadfast in their faith, walk closely with Jesus Christ, and dedicate themselves to serving communities with integrity and spiritual discipline.
Bishop Akanjuna made the remarks while presiding over the ordination of 18 deacons and seven priests during a service held at St. Peter’s Cathedral Rugarama in the Northern Division of Kabale Municipality.
In his sermon, the bishop emphasized the importance of combining theological knowledge with spiritual growth, noting that church leaders are expected to put into practice the lessons and values acquired during their training.
“Combine theological education with spiritual discipline. Training, retreats, and academic preparation are intended to equip church leaders for effective ministry. Walk closely with Jesus Christ and serve as His representatives in the communities where you will minister,” Bishop Akanjuna said.
He further encouraged the ordained clergy to remain committed to their calling and ensure that their conduct reflects the teachings of Christ as they begin ministering to God’s people in different communities.
The bishop also noted that the knowledge and skills gained during theological training should now be reflected in their daily ministry, leadership, and service to the Church.
Speaking at the ordination service, Kabale District Woman Member of Parliament Enid Origumisiriza Atuhaire called upon the newly ordained clergy to use their influence to sensitize communities about government development programmes, particularly the Parish Development Model (PDM).
“The programme has the potential to transform communities economically if beneficiaries utilize the funds effectively and invest in productive ventures,” Atuhaire said.
According to Atuhaire, the government continues to extend financial support to eligible households through the Parish Development Model as part of efforts to improve household incomes, reduce poverty, and promote socio-economic transformation at the grassroots level.
The ordination service attracted Christians, religious leaders, local leaders, and family members who gathered to witness the commissioning of the new deacons and priests into ministry.
