Muslims in Mityana Urged to Promote Unity and National Development

Muslims in Mityana District have been urged to strengthen their love for religion and country, while leaders have been cautioned against selfishness and personal interests that undermine national development.

The message was delivered by  Ssingo County treasurer, Richard Kyambadde on behalf of the Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, during Eid al-Adha celebrations held at Masjid Jamia Mosque in Mityana Municipality.

From the early morning hours, Muslims from different parts of Mityana gathered at Masjid Jamia Mosque to mark Eid al-Adha, one of the most important celebrations on the Islamic calendar.

Leading the prayers, Musa Gwantamu called on parents to take greater responsibility in guiding children with strong religious and moral values amid growing concerns over indiscipline among the youth.

“Parents must take responsibility for raising children in accordance with religious teachings because many young people today are being influenced by harmful behaviours,” Sheikh Gwantamu said.

He also encouraged Muslims to remain united, disciplined, and committed to values that promote peace and harmony in society.

In the Kabaka’s message, Muslims were urged to remain faithful to their religion while also contributing positively to the development of their country.

“People should love their religion and their country because national development requires unity, responsibility, and commitment from every citizen,” the message read.

The Kabaka further warned leaders against excessive selfishness and putting personal interests ahead of public service, saying such practices continue to slow down national progress.

“Leaders should avoid self-centeredness and work for the common good of the people if the country is to move forward,” the message added.

Local leaders who attended the celebrations described Eid al-Adha as an important occasion that promotes sacrifice, unity, and compassion within communities.

Some leaders encouraged Muslims to embrace the tradition of slaughtering animals during Eid, noting that the practice symbolizes obedience to God and sharing blessings with others.

After the prayers, Muslims offered special prayers for deceased relatives and community members before slaughtering nine cows at the mosque premises as part of the Eid celebrations.

The celebrations concluded with calls for unity, peaceful coexistence, and continued cooperation between religious leaders, cultural institutions, and government authorities in promoting community development in Mityana District.
