Namuganza Withdraws From Speakership Race, to Rally Behind Oboth Oboth, Tayebwa

Bukono County Member of Parliament, Persis Namuganza has announced her official withdrawal from the race for Speaker of the 12th Parliament .

She has also pledged full support for the candidates endorsed by the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).

In a statement issued after the NRM selected its preferred candidates for Speaker and Deputy Speaker, Namuganza said her decision was guided by gratitude, peace and loyalty to the party.

“With a heart overflowing with gratitude and peace, I wish to inform the entire nation that I have officially withdrawn from the race for Speaker of the 12th Parliament,” she said.

The Bukono County MP declared her full support for Jacob Marksons Oboth and Thomas Tayebwa, who were endorsed for Speaker and Deputy Speaker respectively.

“Moving forward, I fully and wholeheartedly rally behind the candidates selected today by the NRM for the positions of Speaker and Deputy Speaker,” she stated.

Namuganza also used the opportunity to thank Ugandans for the support they extended to her throughout the campaign.

“I want to express my deepest, most profound and heartfelt gratitude to every single Ugandan — from the villages of Bukono to every corner of our beautiful motherland — for the overwhelming love, support, prayers, and encouragement you have showered upon me throughout this campaign,” she said.

“Your voices, your trust, and your unwavering belief in me have been a source of immense strength and inspiration.”

She congratulated Oboth and Tayebwa upon their endorsement and wished them success in their new responsibilities.

“I wish you wisdom, integrity, and success as you take up these important responsibilities,” she said.

Namuganza further called for unity within the ruling party and the country, urging Ugandans to rally behind Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

“This is a new chapter for our Parliament and our nation. Let us now unite as one people behind the leadership of His Excellency President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni Tibuhaburwa and work together for the good of Uganda,” she added.
