Kamwenge District has unveiled plans to establish a district stadium as part of efforts to promote and nurture youth talent during the 2026–2030 political term.
The proposed stadium project was revealed on Thursday by the newly sworn-in Kamwenge District Chairperson, Joseph Karungi, during his remarks shortly after taking oath of office.
Karungi said the district leadership is committed to ensuring that the long-awaited stadium becomes a reality, noting that sports development remains one of the key priorities for the new administration.
“As leaders, we are determined to push and process everything necessary to ensure that Kamwenge District gets its own stadium,” Karungi said.
He explained that the stadium will provide a platform for young people to showcase and develop their talents, especially in football, athletics, and other sporting disciplines.
“Our youth have a lot of talent, but many of them lack proper facilities where they can train and compete from. Establishing a district stadium will help us identify and nurture these talents for a better future,” he added.
Karungi further noted that the stadium project is expected to contribute to social and economic development within the district through sports-related activities, tournaments, and employment opportunities.
Residents and youth leaders in the district have welcomed the proposed project, expressing hope that the construction of the stadium will open opportunities for young athletes and place Kamwenge among districts promoting sports development in the country.
