Happy Herbert Mayanja has officially been sworn in as the Chairperson of Ibanda District, with a strong call for unity and collective efforts in fighting corruption to improve service delivery in the district.
Mayanja took the oath of office during the swearing-in ceremony of newly elected district councillors held at the Ibanda District headquarters. The ceremony, presided over by the Ibanda Chief Magistrate, marked the beginning of a new council term.
The newly sworn-in district chairperson retained his seat after being declared unopposed in the recently concluded general elections, earning another term to lead the district.
Addressing councillors during the first council sitting shortly after the swearing-in ceremony, Mayanja urged leaders to work together in combating corruption, which he described as a major obstacle to effective service delivery.
“We must join hands in the fight against corruption because it greatly affects service delivery and denies our people the services they deserve,” Mayanja said.
He further reminded the councillors that leadership is about serving the interests of the people rather than pursuing personal gains. According to him, leaders should remain committed to fulfilling the promises they made to voters during the campaign period.
“You were elected to represent the people and serve them diligently. Leadership should go beyond self-interest and focus on improving the welfare of our communities,” he added.
The swearing-in ceremony also ushered in a new district council expected to deliberate on key development priorities and strengthen service delivery across Ibanda District during the new political term.
