Leaders of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) in Mityana District have expressed optimism about improved service delivery, stronger governance, and accelerated development following the swearing-in of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for a new term in office.
Speaking shortly after the inauguration ceremony held at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds, party leaders said Uganda’s four decades under the NRM government have registered notable achievements in several sectors while also providing lessons in leadership, accountability, and programme implementation.
According to the leaders, the new political term offers an opportunity for both national and local leaders to address past gaps and improve the delivery of public services to communities.
“We have learnt a lot over the years, especially in leadership and service delivery. What is important now is to use those lessons to improve the lives of our people in the next five years,” said Kabango John, the NRM Chairperson for Mityana Municipality.
The leaders noted that government programmes under the NRM administration have contributed to progress in sectors such as education, agriculture, electricity, and road infrastructure. However, they argued that Mityana District has not benefited to its full potential due to political divisions and disagreements among local leaders.
“Mityana has the potential to develop like many other districts, but political misunderstandings have affected our progress. We need leaders who put the interests of the people first,” Kabango added.
Despite these challenges, the leaders called for unity among all elected leaders, regardless of political affiliation, in order to lobby for development projects that directly improve livelihoods.
“We may belong to different political parties, but development should unite us. Roads, schools, electricity, and health services benefit everyone regardless of political affiliation,” he said.
District NRM youth leader Jet Steven Mulindwa also expressed hope that the new term will focus more on accountability, improved supervision of government programmes, and ensuring that services reach grassroots communities.
“We are hopeful that this term will focus more on accountability, proper supervision of government programmes, and ensuring that services reach ordinary citizens,” Mulindwa said.
The leaders further highlighted Mityana’s inclusion in national development initiatives such as the Cities and Municipalities Infrastructure Development (UCMID) Project, describing it as a positive sign of continued government investment in the district.
They said such programmes are expected to improve urban infrastructure, enhance service delivery, and create economic opportunities for residents and businesses.
As the new term begins, NRM leaders in Mityana say residents are hopeful that improved coordination among leaders and better implementation of government programmes will address long-standing challenges affecting communities across the district.
