The outgoing Makindye Division Mayor, Hajj Kasirye Nganda, popularly known as Mulyannyama, has officially handed over the mayoral office and all government property, including an official vehicle, to the Division Town Clerk, Thomas Ssentongo, marking the end of his tenure in local government leadership.
The handover ceremony took place at the Makindye Division headquarters, where Mulyannyama expressed gratitude to residents for entrusting him with leadership, saying serving the people of Makindye had been an honour.
Town Clerk Ssentongo commended the outgoing mayor for what he described as accountable and committed leadership, noting that his tenure had contributed significantly to improved service delivery and development in the division.
Several leaders, including officials from the Kampala Capital City Authority, also praised Mulyannyama for transforming the image of Makindye Division and supporting the implementation of government programmes.
They noted that his leadership helped strengthen coordination between local government structures and central government initiatives, contributing to visible improvements in urban service delivery.
In his farewell remarks, Mulyannyama urged incoming leaders to build on the progress achieved and to maintain close engagement with residents in order to sustain development momentum in the area.
He was recently elected Member of Parliament for Makindye East Constituency and is expected to be sworn in soon, transitioning from local government leadership to national politics.
Residents and leaders alike expressed optimism that his experience in local governance will enhance his contribution at the national level, particularly in matters affecting urban development and service delivery.
The transition marks a new chapter for Makindye Division as new leadership takes over administration following a tenure that has been widely credited with strengthening local governance systems.
