One of the people accused of several charges including unlawful possession of fire arms together with Boda Boda 2010 patron Aballah Kitatta has told the army court that he will use incarcerated senior police officer Agasiirwe to defend him in court.
On Monday, Kitatta and nine members of the notorious Boda Boda 2010 group started their defence.
Sowali Ngobi, a police officer who was attached to Kitatta told court that he would give evidence on oath before revealing that he would present Agasiirwe and another police officer as his witnesses.
“SSP Nixon Agasiirwe and Sgt Allan Matsiko will be my defence witnesses in this case,”Ngobi told court chaired by Lt.Gen.Andrew Gutti on Monday.
It is however not clear whether Agasiirwe who is in incarceration will be allowed to come to court to defend Ngobi in the matter.
Matsiko is also a former bodyguard to Kitatta whereas Agasiirwe , the former commander of the police special operations was arrested and charged together with other senior and junior police officers with the kidnap of Joel Mutabazi, a former bodyguard to Rwanda president Paul Kagame and his brother Jackson Kalemera and forcefully repatriated them to Rwanda in 2013.
Ngobi, a police officer was attached to Kitatta as his bodyguard by the former Inspector General of Police, Gen.Kale Kayihura and according to the Boda Boda 2010 patron, he(Ngobi) is authorized to possess firearms due to the nature of job he does.
Meanwhile, Boda Boda 2010 patron Abdallah Kitatta told court that his co-accused including Ngobi Sowali, Joel Kibirige and Ibrahim Ssekagya will be his three witnesses as he defends himself.
When he took to the witness stand to defend himself, the three co-accused were asked to get out of court before being allowed in back after his testimony.
The court has adjourned the matter to January 21.
