The National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) has today launched the mass distribution of National Identity Cards in Mubende District.
According to Patrobas Rutagyengwa, more than 200,000 National IDs have been renewed in the district.
“We have successfully renewed over 200,000 National IDs here in Mubende, and we are now focused on ensuring that every rightful owner collects their card during this exercise,” Rutagyengwa said.
He urged residents to pick up their National IDs, noting that the exercise will run for seven days.
“I call upon all residents to collect their IDs from the designated centres within the given timeframe. This is a very important document for every Ugandan,” he added.
Rutagyengwa also noted that several collection centres have been established across the district to ease the distribution process.
Benon Tibyasa, the Assistant Resident District Commissioner for Mubende Municipality, thanked the government for the initiative.
“This effort will greatly help our people who have been facing challenges accessing services due to the lack of National IDs. We appreciate the government for bringing this service closer to the people,” Tibyasa said.
Some residents who collected their IDs expressed appreciation, noting that life had been difficult without proper identification.
“I have struggled for years without an ID, missing out on services such as banking and mobile registration. Today, I am very happy to finally receive mine,” one resident said.
The distribution exercise is taking place at Mubende Mayor’s Gardens, where hundreds of residents have already turned up to collect their National IDs.
