The Principal Judge, Lady Justice Jane Frances Abodo, on Thursday toured the newly refurbished Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Centre at Gulu Central Police Station.
The visit aimed to assess the status of the interview rooms and review the implementation of activities focused on strengthening witness tracing and the investigation of GBV cases.
Upon arrival, Lady Justice Abodo was received by the Deputy Regional Police Commander, Jamadah Wandera; the District Police Commander for Gulu Central Police Station, Joseph Karugaba; the Deputy Regional CID Officer, Michael Ogwal; the Officer in Charge of CID, James Waigo; and the Regional Legal Officer, Osman Magezi.
During the tour, Lady Justice Abodo was accompanied by the Resident Judge of Gulu, Justice Philip Odoki, and MAdekemi Ndieli, Deputy Country Representative of UN Women.
“The refurbished facility is designed to serve as a reception centre for women and children, providing a safe, private, and supportive environment for interviewing victims and witnesses,” she said.
According to her, the centre was refurbished with support from UN Women, with additional support from the Austrian Development Cooperation.
The visit underscores ongoing efforts to enhance the handling of GBV cases and improve access to justice for survivors through strengthened investigative processes and victim-centered facilities.
