Youth leaders across Uganda are demanding increased inclusion in government and expanded access to ideological training, following the recent National Resistance Movement (NRM) retreat in Kyankwanzi.
The leaders argue that equipping young people with ideological grounding will enhance their role in national development and leadership.
Speaking on behalf of youth leaders, Nabukenya Bennitar from Kiboga District urged government to prioritize youth empowerment through structured opportunities.
“We want government to prioritize the youth by giving us space to participate in leadership and access to ideological training like other leaders,” she said.
The call comes shortly after Members of Parliament concluded a nine-day training at the National Leadership Institute Kyankwanzi.
Stephen Mulindwa, the District Youth Councilor for Mityana, said similar training should be extended to young people nationwide. He called on Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to integrate more youth into government structures, particularly within the executive arm.
“Young people form the biggest percentage of this country. Giving us opportunities in leadership will strengthen representation and service delivery,” Mulindwa said.
The leaders also pledged to mobilize up to 10,000 young people to attend the President’s upcoming swearing-in ceremony, signaling their commitment to national processes.
They maintain that meaningful youth inclusion, alongside ideological orientation, is critical to strengthening governance and shaping Uganda’s future.
