Speaking to a lively audience, the Katikiro warned against complacency, urging young people to act decisively in shaping their academic, professional, and personal journeys.

“The energy you possess today is a fleeting resource. Do not waste this youthful stage of your lives. The world does not wait for those who hesitate; you must be vigilant and grab every opportunity that comes your way, whether in academia, leadership, or entrepreneurship,” Mayiga said.

He stressed that many young people mistakenly assume opportunities will come to them, instead of actively pursuing them. He urged the students to position themselves as drivers of transformation within both Buganda and Uganda, particularly in fields of science and technology.

Accompanying him was Joseph Kawuuki, who emphasized the importance of unity and cultural identity among students studying in diverse environments.

“I urge you to promote unwavering unity among yourselves. As you pursue your degrees, do not leave your values behind. Uphold the virtues of integrity, respect, and hard work that define us,” Kawuuki said.

The visit also featured a symbolic tree-planting ceremony, representing growth and strengthening ties between the Buganda Kingdom and communities in the Ankole-Kigezi region.

Mayiga’s tour is expected to continue with engagements involving Buganda leaders in the region, focusing on agricultural initiatives, cultural exchange, and socio-economic development.

University officials welcomed the visit, describing it as a bridge-building engagement that encourages students to embrace their roles as responsible citizens and cultural ambassadors.
