Christians in Bukomansimbi District turned up in large numbers at churches to celebrate Easter Sunday, marking the resurrection of Jesus Christ, despite early morning rains that threatened to disrupt the day’s activities.

At St. Donozio Ssebuggwawo Catholic Parish in Kisiita, Kawoko Parish, Butenga Sub-county, the main Easter Mass was led by Fr. Francis Xavier Mayanja, who used the occasion to call on Christians to strengthen their relationship with God and embrace a life of righteousness.

During his homily, Fr. Mayanja emphasized that Easter is a powerful reminder of victory over sin and death, noting that the resurrection confirms Jesus Christ as the King of Heaven and Earth. He urged believers to use this holy day as an opportunity to “rise” from their sinful ways and live renewed lives.

He also appealed to the faithful to take responsibility for protecting the environment, stressing the importance of tree planting and maintaining cleanliness.

“At least every year, plant ten trees—five for fruit and the other five for timber and firewood,” he said.

According to him, caring for nature is essential for building a sustainable and desirable country for future generations.

Fr. Mayanja further encouraged Christians to emulate the humility demonstrated by Jesus Christ, saying that humility is key to fostering peace and harmony in society. He noted that many of the challenges people face today—including unemployment, domestic violence, debt, and political tensions—can be overcome through faith in the risen Christ.
