Christians in Mityana District under the Catholic faith gathered in large numbers to take part in the Way of the Cross procession, marking the culmination of the Lenten season.
The procession, which began at exactly 2:00 p.m., drew believers from all 17 sub-parishes under Mityana Cathedral Parish. Participants walked in prayer and reflection, retracing the suffering of Jesus Christ leading up to His crucifixion. The faithful later converged at Kiyinda Parish, where the spiritual journey concluded.
Speaking during the procession, Fr. Steven Lusiba called on people of all faiths to embrace unity, peace, and humanity, especially during this significant religious period.
“This is a time for reflection, unity, and love for one another. We encourage people from all religions to live in harmony and uphold the values of humanity,” he said.
He also urged Christians to maintain good conduct and continue practicing acts of kindness even as they conclude the Lenten period.
“As we come to the end of Lent, let us not abandon the good deeds we have practiced. Instead, we should continue living righteous lives and extending compassion to others,” Fr. Lusiba added.
The procession was also attended by Sylvia Namabidde, former Woman Member of Parliament for Mityana and now a commissioner in the communications sector. She emphasized the importance of nurturing religious values among young people.
“We must take seriously the responsibility of instilling faith and moral values in our children so that they grow up grounded in discipline and spirituality,” she noted.
The Way of the Cross remains one of the most significant events in the Christian calendar, symbolizing sacrifice, faith, and redemption, and continues to draw thousands of believers across the country each year.
