Christians in Kasese on Friday joined millions around the world to commemorate Good Friday with solemn prayers and the symbolic Way of the Cross.
The day, which forms a central part of Holy Week in the Christian calendar, saw believers from different denominations gather in large numbers from the early morning hours. They moved in procession through major streets, hills, and church compounds in remembrance of the suffering and crucifixion of Jesus Christ.
Clad in modest attire and carrying crosses, worshippers retraced the 14 Stations of the Cross, pausing at each point for scripture readings, reflections, and prayers. The atmosphere was marked by silence, hymns, and deep meditation, as participants reflected on themes of sacrifice, forgiveness, and redemption.
Religious leaders in the district urged Christians to use the occasion to renew their faith and promote unity within their communities.
They emphasized that Good Friday is not only about mourning but also about understanding the depth of love demonstrated through Christ’s sacrifice.
“We walk this journey to remind ourselves of the pain Christ endured for humanity. It is a call for us to live righteous lives and show compassion toward one another,” said Bishop Acquirinus Kibira Kambale of the Diocese of Kasese during a homily.
Security personnel were deployed along major routes to ensure order during the processions, which at times caused temporary disruptions to traffic within the town.
As the day progressed, churches held afternoon services focusing on the final moments of Jesus Christ, culminating in the veneration of the cross.
Good Friday observances in Kasese continue to reflect a strong tradition of faith, bringing communities together in shared reflection and spiritual renewal ahead of Easter celebrations.
