Police in Mayuge District have confirmed a tragic boat accident on Lake Victoria that has left three people dead and several others missing.
According to Busoga East Police spokesperson Michael Kasadha, the incident occurred near Bugoto Landing Site in Bukabooli Sub-county when a boat carrying an unspecified number of passengers capsized under unclear circumstances.
The deceased, who are yet to be identified, include one adult female and two children. Four people were rescued from the water.
Police and local rescue teams have launched search operations to locate other individuals believed to be missing.
Officers from Mayuge Central Police Station (CPS) are at the scene coordinating rescue efforts and preliminary investigations into the cause of the accident.
Authorities have urged the public, particularly water transport operators, to adhere strictly to safety measures on water bodies to prevent such tragedies.
