The People's Front for Freedom has called on opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu to return to Uganda, while urging the government to formally charge him if there is a case, warning that ambiguity undermines both opposition momentum and public trust.

The People's Front for Freedom (PFF) has called for the immediate return of National Unity Platform leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, arguing that his absence weakens the opposition’s ability to effectively challenge President Museveni.

Speaking from the party’s offices on Katonga Road in Kampala, Deputy Chairman Michael Lulume Bayigga said Kyagulanyi’s presence in the country is critical to driving political change.

“If the desire is to dislodge President Museveni and achieve genuine change, Robert Kyagulanyi must be present in the country,” Bayigga said.

He noted that Kyagulanyi has been abroad for several days on what have been described as official engagements, with no clear timeline for his return. According to the PFF, this creates a leadership gap within the opposition that ultimately benefits the incumbent government.

Bayigga also challenged the government to clarify its position regarding Kyagulanyi, urging authorities to formally charge him if there are grounds to do so.

“The government should openly charge Kyagulanyi if they have a case against him,” he said. “Rather than hinting at wrongdoing that serves only to tarnish his reputation, they must come forward with clear accusations and evidence in a court of law.”

The party said it is ready to work with any political actors committed to change, signaling openness to broader opposition cooperation regardless of party affiliation.

“We are prepared to cooperate with anyone fighting for change,” Bayigga added.

As part of its expansion strategy, the PFF announced plans to establish party offices in every village across Uganda, a move aimed at strengthening grassroots mobilization and improving engagement with citizens.

The party also criticized the government’s practice of assigning army personnel to oversee certain public projects, arguing that it undermines transparency and bypasses established procurement procedures. Bayigga called for a review of the approach to ensure accountability and adherence to standard administrative processes.

In his remarks, Bayigga also extended greetings to the Muslim community following recent Eid celebrations, encouraging reflection and prayers for national unity.

The PFF’s latest statements highlight a broader push to consolidate opposition efforts, demand accountability from the government, and strengthen its own organizational presence at the grassroots level.
