Leaders Condemn Katadoba Health Centre III Over Alleged Negligence After Maternal Death

Leaders in Kasese Municipality have strongly criticised the management of Katadoba Health Centre III following the death of a woman who reportedly developed complications after undergoing a cesarean section allegedly performed without the required medical equipment and specialised personnel.

The deceased, a resident of Rugendabara Town Council in Kasese, had reportedly gone to the facility to deliver but was subjected to a complex surgical procedure.

Preliminary accounts from family members and local authorities indicate that the health centre allegedly lacked adequate surgical equipment and skilled staff to manage complications arising from such an operation. She is said to have later died due to excessive bleeding.

Family members have described the incident as negligence and have since sought legal redress in court.

Codnus Bwambale, a relative of the deceased, expressed frustration over the circumstances surrounding her death.

“We entrusted the health workers with her life, but what happened shows there was serious negligence,” Bwambale said. “We have decided to seek justice through the courts so that those responsible are held accountable.”

Local residents have also raised concerns over what they describe as increasing cases of alleged medical recklessness at lower-level health facilities. Edson Muhyana, a resident of Kasese, called for stronger supervision by district health authorities.

“We are worried about the safety of our mothers and children,” Muhyana noted. “Government should strengthen monitoring and ensure that only qualified personnel handle complicated cases.”

Kasese Municipality Mayor Chance Kahindo condemned the incident and extended condolences to the bereaved family, while urging the public to exercise caution when seeking medical care, particularly during emergencies.

“This is a very unfortunate incident,” Mayor Kahindo said. “As a municipality, we have engaged the management of the health centre to establish what went wrong. If any medic is found culpable, the law will take its course.”

Efforts to obtain a comment from the Kasese District Health Officer and the Police were unsuccessful by press time.

The matter is now under investigation to find out  the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death continue.
