Museveni endorses national dialogue

President Museveni yesterday approved the national dialogue process hence forth instituting a committee of 25 people to steer the national dialogue.

The president however cautioned the organisers on the form of dialogue and the words to be used during the dialogue in order not to violate the constitution.

The president made the remarks while meeting a delegation of the organisers of the dialogue at State House Entebbe.

Justice James Ogoola one of the conveners of the dialogue said they were  commissioning the first step of the dialogue through six working committees. He said the real process will be launched in March while the dialogue is expected in October 2019.

Upon the revelation, Museveni said he will be happy to take part in the dialogue.

 "I told my people that there is no need to fear the dialogue. What I don’t want is shouting at one another. Let it be purely dialogue," he said.

A steering committee of 22 people has been instituted from government, political leaders, religious leaders, women and youths. It will be chaired by the elders council.

Sheikh Ramadhan Mubajje the co chair of the convening organisation said that the dialogue is premised on eight key points including national diversity, constitutionalism, consensus on land and natural resources, minimum standards of national delivery and historical questions.

"We want to set aside egos for the good of the country," Mubajje said.
