Government Programs to Continue Uninterrupted During Election Period – Fred Bamwine

With just days to Uganda’s general presidential and parliamentary elections, the Commissioner at the Office of the President, Fred Bamwine, has reassured Ugandans that government operations will continue as normal during the election period, dismissing perceptions that national programs come to a halt whenever the country goes to the polls.

Speaking during NBS Eagle on Sunday, Bamwine noted that there is a growing misconception among some citizens that elections overshadow all other state responsibilities.

“Some Ugandans have a mindset that when it’s election time, the government will pause and deal with elections alone. That’s not right,” he said.

Bamwine emphasized that government programs are designed to run continuously, regardless of the electoral calendar, adding that essential sectors such as security cannot be suspended.

“The government’s programs will continue running with or without elections, including security,” he said.

Bamwine highlighted the competitive nature of the elections, stating that although there are 353 parliamentary seats available, over 2,000 candidates are contesting for those positions. He said this level of competition underscores the need for order, coordination, and heightened security to ensure a peaceful and credible electoral process.

In this regard, Bamwine called on the Uganda Police Force and other security agencies to remain proactive and transparent in their engagement with the public.

“Police should continue telling people why there is a need for security during this election period,” he said, adding that public awareness and cooperation are critical in preventing misunderstandings and maintaining calm.
