FUFA Suspends Three Buhimba United Players Over Match-Fixing

The Investigatory Chamber of the FUFA Ethics and Disciplinary Committee has handed a 90-day provisional suspension to three players of Uganda Premier League (UPL) side, Buhimba United Saints FC following allegations of match manipulation linked to betting activities.

The players; Moses Ayebale, Ramathan Dudu, and Fred Nkata, are under investigation over their alleged involvement in the Lugazi FC versus Buhimba United Saints match played on November 8, 2025, which investigators believe may have been deliberately manipulated.

According to information released by FUFA, the sanctions stem from evidence so far gathered by the Investigatory Chamber, which “indicates that the match was manipulated for betting purposes.”

FUFA says the investigation was initiated after the federation received intelligence pointing to irregularities surrounding the match.

Subsequent inquiries allegedly linked the three players to the suspected manipulation, prompting the opening of formal investigation proceedings for a potential breach of Article 43 of the FUFA Ethics and Disciplinary Code, which relates to the Manipulation of Football Matches or Competitions.

In addition to internal disciplinary measures, FUFA noted that the conduct under investigation may also amount to a criminal offence.

The federation said the matter will be reported to the Uganda Police in line with provisions of the National Sports Act, which criminalises match-fixing and betting-related manipulation.

“In accordance with Section 78 of the FUFA Ethics and Disciplinary Code, the Chairperson of the Investigatory Chamber decided to provisionally suspend the players pending the completion of the investigation, in order to safeguard the integrity of the competition,” FUFA said.

The provisional suspension bars the affected players from participating in any football-related activity during the 90-day period or until the investigation is concluded.

Under Article 43 of the FUFA Ethics and Disciplinary Code, any person who directly or indirectly influences the course, result or any aspect of a football match for improper purposes, including betting, commits a serious offence.

Sanctions range from lengthy suspensions to lifetime bans, fines and referral to law enforcement agencies.

FUFA has in recent years intensified its fight against match manipulation, particularly in lower-division leagues, where players and officials are considered more vulnerable to betting syndicates.

Buhimba United earned promotion to the Uganda Premier League (UPL) for the 2025–2026 season, alongside Calvary, and Gaddafi.

The club has since made a steady start to life in the top flight.

At present, Buhimba sit 10th on the UPL table with 13 points
