The Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) has entered into a strategic partnership with Matugga Industries & Logistics Hub Ltd (MIL) to boost agricultural production, livestock farming, and household incomes among Muslim communities across Uganda.

The partnership agreement was officially signed at the UMSC Headquarters Old Kampala at the event attended by members of the UMSC National Management Committee and District Kadhis.

The signing followed a half-day orientation session on MIL’s operations, focusing on the production and supply of quality agrochemicals, certified seeds, animal feeds, farm tools, equipment, agricultural inputs, and protective gear.

The orientation featured an interactive engagement led by MIL Executive Director, Fiona Migadde, who, together with her technical team, shared practical insights on improving modern farming and livestock management within local communities.

The session was moderated by the UMSC Deputy Secretary General in charge of Planning and Development,

Abdu-Razaq Arinda, and the Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, and the UMSC Secretary General, Hadji Abbas Muluubya Ssekyanzi.

Addressing the gathering, Sheikh Mubaje reaffirmed that unity and development remain the guiding pillars of his leadership at UMSC.

“After almost 25 years in office, the majority of Muslims now understand and appreciate that unity is the only path to meaningful development,” the Mufti said.

He highlighted UMSC’s ongoing socio-economic empowerment initiatives, including a self-sustenance economic project rolled out across the council’s ten Muslim regions three years ago.

However, the Mufti acknowledged challenges encountered during implementation, citing the Northern Muslim Region where over 200 sheep distributed to households died due to climatic challenges unfamiliar to the animals.

MIL experts, he noted, provided immediate technical guidance to mitigate such challenges, prompting him to commend the partnership.

“It is a blessing that UMSC has found Matugga Industries & Logistics Hub Ltd as partners. We call upon all Kadhis to embrace this initiative, mobilise the faithful, adopt modern farming methods, and establish demonstration farms on idle UMSC land,” Sheikh Mubaje said.

The Mufti further urged Kadhis to sensitise communities about government poverty alleviation programs, encourage mosque Imams to join Savings and Credit Cooperative Organisations (SACCOs), and emphasise the importance of peace before, during, and after elections.

UMSC Secretary General Hadji Abbas Muluubya Ssekyanzi described the partnership as timely and strategic.

“This collaboration aligns well with national development priorities and UMSC’s vision of transforming society through sustainable economic empowerment,” he said.

Under the agreement, MIL will finance, stock, manage, and operate UMSC Farmers’ Centres across the country, offering ethical, transparent, and faith-aligned agricultural products and services.

UMSC will, in turn, mobilise Muslim communities through its established structures to support the initiative, with the goal of eliminating counterfeit agro-inputs, increasing productivity, and improving household income
