“I am praising the improved turnaround time and quality of service at the installation points. Now I feel protected with the new number plate,” the rider said.

Spiro Uganda Country Head Bruce Mucunguzi said collaboration between key stakeholders had significantly improved service delivery for riders and motorists.

“Our priority is to deliver a secure, efficient and transparent implementation that supports both regulatory requirements and customer needs,” Mucunguzi said.

“Working with the Ministry of Works and Transport, Motor Vehicle Registration and ITMS, we have accelerated installation processes to minimise downtime for riders. Registration queries are now resolved in less than 24 hours.”

ITMS Head of Installations Joseph Tumwine said the system has already achieved strong operational performance, with most installations completed as scheduled.

“We have achieved 83 per cent of installations on the planned day and are committed to improving this further,” Tumwine said.

“We are also announcing an ambitious production target of up to one million number plates in 2026, supported by our new factory in Kyambogo.”

The Kyambogo-based facility currently employs 300 Ugandans and produces up to 2,500 number plates per shift.

ITMS said the expansion demonstrates its commitment to building domestic capacity by manufacturing durable number plates entirely within Uganda, while ensuring a transparent and efficient registration experience for motorists.

Spiro Uganda, which began operations in June 2024, has played a growing role in the boda boda sector by offering electric motorcycles as alternatives to petrol-powered bikes.

The company has also rolled out a network of battery-swapping stations across the country to improve rider convenience.

ITMS said its broader ecosystem integrates advanced transport monitoring technologies, data analytics and smart enforcement tools such as the Electronic Penalty System.

The system also supports the Uganda Police Force in recovering stolen vehicles and motorcycles, enhancing road safety and strengthening transport management nationwide.
