Thousands of Christians on Sunday thronged Kyabazinga Stadium in Bugembe to witness the consecration and enthronement of the fourth Bishop of Busoga Diocese, the Rev Canon Professor Grace Lubaale, in a historic ceremony that drew clergy and lay faithful from across the country.
Rev Lubaale officially assumed leadership of the diocese, succeeding Rev Paul Samson Naimanhe, who has been serving as Bishop of Busoga Diocese.
The large turnout reflected the significance of the occasion to the Church of Uganda and the wider Busoga community.
The service was presided over by the Archbishop of the Province of Uganda, the Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, who led the act of consecration and enthronement.
The preacher of the day, the Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese, Rt. Rev. Onesmus Assimwe, called on the new bishop to embrace servant leadership, humility, and faithfulness to the Gospel, urging him to shepherd God’s people with integrity and compassion.
President Museveni was represented at the ceremony by the Vice President, Maj. (Rtd) Jessica Alupo.
The Busoga Kingdom was represented by the Katukiro, Dr. Joseph Muvawala.
The ceremony was attended by numerous bishops from dioceses across Uganda, underscoring unity and solidarity within the Anglican communion.
Also present was the retired Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, the Most Rev. Stanley Ntagali.
The colourful service featured hymns, prayers, and traditional expressions, adding to the solemnity and celebratory spirit of the occasion as Busoga Diocese welcomed its new spiritual leader.
