Swaib Toko has officially taken over as the Resident District Commissioner for Adjumani, pledging transparency, teamwork, and continued support for both nationals and refugees.
He replaces Peter Taban Data, who has been transferred to Karenga District.
The handover ceremony, held this afternoon at the RDC’s office, was witnessed by Lt. Stephen Erwau, the District Internal Security Officer (DISO), and Emmanuel Okware, the Deputy RDC. The brief ceremony lasted less than 15 minutes.
Outgoing RDC Peter Taban Data thanked the people of Adjumani for their cooperation during his tenure and commended the media for amplifying government programs.
“Transfers are normal. I want to thank the media and the people of Adjumani District. I think I have been the longest-serving RDC here,” Data said.
“Adjumani is a unique and peaceful district that has shown great hospitality to refugees and other communities.”
Data also urged his successor to maintain unity and strengthen government oversight in the district.
Incoming RDC Toko Swaib, who previously served in Arua District, pledged to build on his predecessor’s achievements.
“I will take over from where Data has left. My approach will be teamwork, cooperation, and transparency,” Toko said.
“We shall ensure improved service delivery and strengthen the implementation of government programs for both nationals and refugees.”
Residents expressed mixed emotions over the transition, combining gratitude for the outgoing commissioner’s service with optimism about the new leadership.
Grace Apio, a businesswoman in Adjumani Town, praised Data for his approachable style and responsiveness to community concerns.
“Data has been a people’s person. He listened and responded quickly to issues affecting traders and refugees. We wish him well in Karenga,” Apio said.
Bosco Atidri, a youth leader, welcomed Toko’s appointment, noting that he brings fresh energy and experience from his previous service in Arua.
“We are hopeful that the new RDC will focus on youth empowerment and strengthen coordination between local leaders and government agencies,” Atidri said.
The ceremony concluded with light moments and a collective call to promote peace, development, and accountability in Adjumani District.
