Bukomansimbi — The Anglicans of St. James Church of Uganda in Bukomansimbi District have called on fellow believers and local residents to join hands in supporting the construction of a new church building.
The appeal was made during Sunday prayers led by Canon Godfrey Mpuuga Kasiita, archdeacon of Misanvu in Kibinge Sub-county.
Canon Kasiita urged the congregation to remain committed to the project, emphasizing that its success depends on collective effort and determination.
Earlier, the church organized a fundraising marathon across several villages, attracting participation from local residents and well-wishers.
The proceeds were presented during the Sunday service at the temporary site on Sembabule Road within Bukomansimbi Town Council, where the new church will be built.
“As the scriptures in Nehemiah teach us, such a mission requires people with courage and commitment. Even if the numbers are small, with determination, we can complete this work,” Canon Kasiita said.
Hajji Muhammad Kateregga, former Bukomansimbi District Chairperson and parliamentary aspirant for Bukomansimbi North, attended the service and urged political leaders to support religious institutions, noting their role in promoting discipline and moral values.
“At a time like this, as the country heads into an election season, it is important that the church and religious leaders help people remain united. Religion plays a key role in ensuring peace and togetherness,” Kateregga said.
The Anglican community previously worshipped in a smaller church in Bukomansimbi. Due to structural challenges and inadequate space, they resolved to relocate and build a new facility on the outskirts of town.
The new church is expected to provide adequate worship space while serving as a symbol of unity and the revival of Protestant values in the area.
