Renowned journalist Unicent Mubangizi , popularly known as Afande Muki, has been officially nominated by the Kamwenge District Electoral Commission to contest for the position of LCV Chairperson as an independent candidate.
Mubangizi, a radio host at Voice of Kamwenge, opted to run independently after losing in the NRM primaries, which he alleges were marred by irregularities.
Confirming his nomination on Friday, District Election Administrator George William Magezi said the Electoral Commission will soon release the official campaign program.
“I have bounced back as an independent candidate following the irregularities that marred the NRM primary elections, and I am optimistic that I will get justice in the independent electoral process,” Mubangizi told journalists after his nomination.
The independent candidate pledged to restore the authority of voters, strengthen cooperation among leaders, and promote a demand-driven approach to service delivery.
“If elected, I will restore the authority of voters into their power, cooperate with all leaders, and ensure service delivery that is inclusive and demand-driven,” he said.
Mubangizi’s priorities include infrastructural development, improved health and education services, boosting household incomes, and advancing modern agricultural practices.
His supporters expressed confidence in his leadership, noting his track record of accountability and transparency.
“We are sure Muki will fight corruption, make decisions that benefit the entire public, and improve service delivery in Kamwenge,” one supporter said.
Mubangizi will challenge incumbent LCV Chairperson Joseph Karungi, who is running on the NRM ticket, in the forthcoming elections.
