Equity Bank is set to showcase its suite of diaspora banking services at the Uganda North America Association (UNAA) Convention, which officially opens tomorrow in New Orleans. The annual event draws Ugandans living abroad, policymakers, and business leaders to explore opportunities in investment, networking, and community development.
As a key sponsor of this year’s convention, Equity Bank says its presence underscores a commitment to providing tailored financial solutions for Ugandans in the diaspora. The bank will highlight services including diaspora accounts, international remittances, investment opportunities, and financial advisory—specifically designed to meet the needs of Ugandans living and working abroad.
“We are delighted to renew our partnership with UNAA and continue walking alongside Ugandans abroad,” said Winfred Wanjiru, Head of International Banking at Equity Bank Uganda. “Through this sponsorship, we reaffirm our commitment to innovative financial solutions that enable the diaspora to invest back home and stay connected to their families.”
Wanjiru emphasized that beyond banking, the bank is focused on fostering economic empowerment and entrepreneurship. “Our goal is not just to provide financial services, but to build stronger ties between Ugandans at home and those abroad. The diaspora plays a critical role in Uganda’s economic development, and we are committed to supporting their financial and investment goals,” she added.
Throughout the convention, Equity Bank staff will be stationed at the venue, offering hands-on support to attendees. Visitors to the Equity Bank booth can expect interactive sessions covering digital banking, cross-border money transfers, property investment, and strategies for financial growth.
Equity Bank will also participate in panel discussions focused on “Investing Back Home,” sharing insights on how the diaspora can engage with Uganda’s economic opportunities while living abroad.
The bank’s participation comes as part of a broader strategy to expand its international footprint. Recently, Equity Group’s Board approved plans to open a representative office in the United Arab Emirates, further extending the bank’s reach to East Africans across the globe.
Equity Bank currently operates a dedicated diaspora banking division, serving clients in North America, Europe, the Middle East, and beyond.
