NBS TV was recently in Dubai reporting on a significant event that could open a new chapter for Uganda’s tourism sector, the Uganda–Qatar Tourism Expo. The expo was designed to create a bridge between Ugandan tour operators and the Gulf market, specifically Qatar, offering a platform for both sides to connect, share opportunities, and streamline travel experiences between the two regions.

Uganda was represented by its ambassador to Qatar, Dr. Stephen Chebrot, and Deputy Ambassador Muhammad Beswali Kezaala. Several Ugandan tour operators were also present, including representatives from WildWaters Lodge, Lemala Wildwaters, and Isra Safaris Africa. On the Qatari side, the delegation was led by Hanan Ibrahim, a renowned tour operator and influencer with a deep interest in promoting new destinations to Gulf tourists.

The discussions focused on unlocking new opportunities for Uganda, from boosting tourism revenue to positioning Uganda more prominently in the Middle East travel market. With its natural beauty, cultural richness, and adventure experiences, Uganda offers an attractive package for travelers seeking authentic experiences. Strengthening diplomatic ties was also a key outcome of the engagements, with both countries exploring ways to collaborate more efficiently in facilitating travel and investment.

Uganda’s presence at the expo was colorful and culturally rich. The delegation showcased Ugandan food, art, crafts, and virtual reality experiences of key attractions like the Nile, mountain gorillas, and traditional instruments. Guests were treated to traditional dances, and the Ugandan team proudly wore traditional attire, men in kanzus and jackets, and women in gomesi made of kikoyi fabric. The setup painted a vivid picture of Uganda’s unique offerings and left a lasting impression on the attendees.
