A new political chapter begins in Uganda today as the Democratic Front, under the leadership of Hon. Mathias Mpuuga, officially launches its operations in Kampala.
This comes just weeks after the Electoral Commission issued a formal Certificate of Registration dated May 6, 2025, confirming the party’s name change from the Green Partisan Party to the Democratic Front.
The certificate, issued under Section 6(1) of the Political Parties and Organisations Act (Cap 178), affirms the party’s compliance with all legal requirements and regulations governing political party operations in Uganda.
The registration marks the Democratic Front as an officially recognised political entity poised to participate in Uganda's political processes.
Mpuuga, a seasoned opposition figure and former Leader of Opposition in Parliament, is expected to unveil the Democratic Front’s vision, core values, and policy agenda during the launch.
The party’s formation comes amid increasing calls for political renewal and unity among opposition groups in the lead-up to the 2026 general elections.
In addition to the new party, Mpuuga also leads a pressure group known as the Democratic Alliance, which has been instrumental in mobilising grassroots support and advocating for democratic reforms.
The relationship between the Democratic Front and the Democratic Alliance is expected to strengthen Mpuuga’s political base and expand his influence across both formal and informal platforms.
