A man has announced his bid to unseat Capt Mike Mukula as the NRM Vice Chairperson in charge of CEC in the Eastern Region .
David Calvin Echodu announced his bid during a function held at Skyz Hotel in Kampala on Wednesday.
“I am offering to stand for the position of vice chairperson Easter Region for NRM. We ask all party supporters to stand with us to get good representation in the CEC. I believe I have something to contribute to guide the party to deliver on the promises made to the people of Uganda,” Echodu said.
He said it is time to correct all wrongs.
“The party must exist to serve people but if it stops serving the population it represents, it loses its vision and mandate .I believe that as we go into next elections, we need new energy and hope for the region.”
Echodu previously stood in the 2021 elections for the Soroti City West parliamentary seat but lost Forum for Democratic Change(FDC)’s Jonathan Ebwalu.
Uganda’s former High Commissioner to Nigeria,Nelson Ocheger, who is also an opinion leader in Teso made a case for election of Echodu as the new NRM Vice chairperson for Eastern Uganda.
“Despite delivering victory for NRM and the party chairman in 2011, 2016 and 2021, there are emerging threats within the rank and file of our party. There is fear for internal competition, lust personal gains, intolerance, corruption and voters’ apathy which when combined, are threatening our party’s standing. We are here to begin to correct this state of affairs. We want someone who is not bent on pursuing personal gains as the current CEC representative,” Ocheger said.
The NRM Central Executive Committee (CEC) is constituted of the party national chairperson, first and second national vice chairpersons and six vice chairpersons representing the East, Central, North, West, Kampala and Karamoja regions.
The top organ of the NRM is also constituted by the Secretary General, National Treasurer, Deputy Secretary General, Deputy National Treasurer, Chairperson of NRM Parliamentary Caucus and all the chairpersons of the National Special League Committees, Chairpersons of Commissions, and such number of National Secretaries and Deputy National Secretaries as NEC may determine.
