While on NBS Television, Kaija emphasized that the newly enhanced AfroMobile will be a game changer, allowing Ugandans and those living abroad to stay connected with premium African stories.

"The reason I believe people abroad get homesick is the lack of access to their home countries," Kaija said.

"Through AfroMobile any Ugandans in the diaspora can keep that connection, with the updates. You will be able to watch the news in real time just like your auntie in Kyenjojo," she added.

Ms Kaija also mentioned that Next Media is collaborating with telecom companies to provide affordable internet bundles to make it easier for AfroMobile users to access the platform.

"We are building a platform (AfroMobile) for the continent. We are building a platform that is borderless and most importantly, we are pushing the African story being told by Africans," Ms Kaija stated.

In a memo dated March 31, 2025, Kariisa noted that as part of the changes, AfroMobile users in Uganda will need to subscribe for Shs9,900, while those in the diaspora will pay just $4.99 per month to access the platform.

Users in Uganda can subscribe using MTN MoMo or Airtel Money, while those abroad can pay via Visa, Mastercard, UnionPay, Google Pay, or PayPal.

It is worth noting that AfroMobile will continue to be accessible on Android TV, Android Mobile, Firestick, Apple TV, and iOS devices.

According to Kariisa, the transition aims to enhance the viewing experience by providing richer storytelling and exclusive content.

"This is a massive step forward for AfroMobile and Next Media. Let's ensure a smooth

transition together!" Kariisa stated.

Kaija mentioned that there will be plenty to look forward to on AfroMobile, including podcasts, movies, music, and better broadcast sections.

Additionally, she noted that users will be able to stream content from the past 48 hours, saying, "Even if you miss a show in real time, you can just rewind and catch your favourite show."

For new users downloading and installing the AfroMobile App for the first time, there will be 48 hours of free access.
