Salam Charity and one Ummah Uganda Partner to uplift the Muslim Community in Katakwi

In a gesture of support, Hajji Kaliisa presented Zakah envelopes to some elderly members of the Katakwi community, each containing 200,000 UGX to help them purchase medicine and basic needs during Ramadhan.

Salam Charity, in partnership with One Ummah Uganda, conducted a ground survey in Katakwi district, revealing alarming conditions the local Muslim community faces.

The survey, which was prompted by Salam Charity's initial visit to the area, exposed a dire need for necessities, including clean water, mosques, Muslim schools, and healthcare facilities. The leaders of the community were also found to be living in deplorable conditions, lacking basic needs.

Located in the eastern part of Uganda, Katakwi district has approximately 180,000 people, with an estimated 10,000 Muslims. The district's main economic activity is cattle trading; the average family size is seven children.

Moved by the plight of the Muslim community, Salam Charity immediately called upon humanitarian organizations and individuals to join forces in uplifting their standards of living. One Ummah Uganda responded to the call, pledging support for the construction of mosques and the provision of clean water sources.

During the joint survey, the teams visited various locations, witnessing firsthand the unbearable conditions faced by the community. The experience left many team members in tears.

"We cannot sleep until we do something to uplift the Muslims of Katakwi and the entire community at large," vowed the One Ummah Uganda team.

Hajji Karim Kaliisa, Managing Director of Salam TV and Salam Charity, expressed gratitude to all individuals who have supported the Katakwi community through Salam Charity. He appealed to everyone to join the cause, especially during the Holy month of Ramadhan, when rewards are doubled.
