Court has extended criminal summons against former Kampala South Regional Police Commander Siraje Bakaleke to October after he and his co-accused failed to appear in Court.
Bakaleke and 8 others are accused of abuse of office, conspiracy to defraud, kidnapping and abducting, and conspiracy to commit a felony.
The group is accused of wrongfully arresting, confining and extorting two Korean nationals and conspiring to defraud a company identified as Mckineley Resource Company Limited of $415,000.
Bakaleke who is one of the blue-eyed boys of former Police boss Kale Kayihura is charged alongside seven other police officers; Munezero Robert, Nuwagaba Innocent, Asiimwe Ribert, Amanya junior, Babu Gustavas, Zirintusa keneth and Mugoya Wanyoto Paul.
The 9th co-accused Nabeta Samuel is a civilian and is the only one who made appearance in court which granted him bail of shs 4 million cash and shs50 million not-cash from his sureties.
Anti Corruption Court Court Grade One Magistrate Moses Nabende granted Nabeta bail because the state did not object to his application and because he has no past criminal record.
Senior State Attorney Harriet Angom said the reason they will not issue arrest warrants for Bakaleke and his other co-accused is because there is no proof that they received criminal summons.
