Police have confirmed clearing the intended march by members of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) against Members of Parliament.
PLU organized to march today in protest against a section of Members of Parliament (MPs) whom they accuse of consistently attacking their leader, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
The organisers said they would march on Kampala streets to show discontent against the MPs.
Reacting to the same, Police spokesperson, Kituuma Rusoke said PLU members had been cleared for march .
“PLU submitted a notification and request to police to be secured and be guided in their activity. They were granted permission,” Rusoke said.
He however noted that the group will not be marching to parliament but Kati Kati Restaurant.
The clearing of the PLU march has seen a section of members of the public raise concern of double standards.
Many say, it is appalling that opposition requests for protests are denied but the one for PLU headed by the First Son, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has been cleared.
The police spokesperson however, explained the rationale behind clearing the PLU march.
“They were also given guidance. The factors usually considered are as long as there are guarantees that a procession is going to be peaceful and whether there are guarantees of non- hooliganistic tendencies. Being that it is an enshrined right, there can be collaborative arrangements between security and the organisers to have it done and in a peaceful way. These are issues that were considered,” Rusoke said.
