Charles Lagu Declares Bid for Moyo West County MP in 2026 on NRM Ticket

The former Executive Director of the National Animal Genetic Resources Centre and Data Bank (NAGRC&DB),Dr Charles Lagu has officially announced his intention to contest for the Moyo West County Member of Parliament seat in the 2026 general elections under the National Resistance Movement (NRM) ticket.

At 48 years old, Dr. Lagu, a veterinarian and animal scientist, says his decision to enter politics is rooted in his expertise in mindset change and transformation.

He believes these skills are vital for mobilising the residents of Moyo West to eradicate poverty at the household level.

Dr. Lagu’s outlined priorities include lobbying for the construction of the Laropi Bridge, the Laropi-Afoji road, and ensuring a stable electricity supply.

He also plans to focus on youth empowerment through skilling programs, improving education and health services, and drafting proposals to attract funding for local development.

Michael Amadi, Dr. Lagu’s paternal uncle, highlighted his humility, dedication, and ability to foster community development as key attributes that make him an ideal candidate.

Similarly, Robert Drichi, the campaign coordinator, praised Dr. Lagu’s passion for helping communities overcome poverty through mindset transformation and described him as a champion of agricultural development in Uganda.

Dr. Lagu is widely recognised for his significant contributions to Uganda’s livestock sector, including advancements in animal genetic resources, sustainable farming practices, and improving the livelihoods of farmers.

His leadership has consistently aimed at enhancing access to quality breeding materials and promoting agricultural productivity.
