Emmanuel Ponga, 36, a businessman in Bweyale Town Council, Kiryandongo District, who was reportedly kidnapped, has been found dead and dumped in Hoima City.
Ponga was allegedly abducted on Monday evening around 6:30 p.m. in Bweyale Town by unidentified assailants.
This occurred shortly after he received a phone call from individuals requesting to meet him within the township.
He went to meet them but never returned home. On Tuesday afternoon, the suspected kidnappers contacted Ponga’s brother, Bosco Jakunga, demanding a ransom of Shs 500,000 to secure his release.
They threatened to kill him if the money was not provided.
This prompted the family to file a case with the Kiryandongo Police, who immediately deployed a team of Flying Squad operatives to track down the suspects.
Julius Hakiza, the Albertine Region Police spokesperson, in an interview on Wednesday evening, said that the suspected kidnappers dumped Ponga in Hoima City on Tuesday night after robbing him of Shs 4,200,000.
“Our officers were still tracing these suspects. Unfortunately, the body was found dumped in Hoima,” Hakiza said.
Hakiza confirmed that Ponga’s body has since been reunited with his family, and efforts to apprehend the suspects are ongoing.
