In response, the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) advised motorists to use an alternative route to bypass the affected area.

“Motorists are advised to divert at Myanzi and proceed via Kassanda Maddudu Kiyuuya road, then turn left to reconnect to the Mubende Highway. This gravel route is motorable but will add approximately 25 kilometers to your journey,” the advisory read.

UNRA teams are working to address the bottleneck and restore normal traffic flow as soon as possible.

However, travelers have been urged to exercise patience and use the alternative route until the situation improves.

The ongoing rains have not only worsened road conditions but also hindered maintenance efforts, leaving sections of the highway unsafe for motorists.

Motorists are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and stay updated on road conditions through official channels such as UNRA’s social media platforms.

The Kalonga section of the highway is a vital link for travelers between Mityana and Mubende.
