UPDF Promotes Four Senior Officers

The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has announced significant promotions across its infantry divisions. This was detailed in a press release signed by Brigadier General Felix Kulayigye, the Director of Defence Public Information.

Brigadier General Stephen Mugerwa has been promoted to Acting Major General and appointed as the Commander of the 1st Infantry Division.

Brigadier General Paul Muhanguzi, previously the Commander of the 2nd Division in Mbarara, has also been elevated to Acting Major General. He has been appointed Commander of the 1st Infantry Division.

Additionally, Brigadier General Felix Busizoli has been named Acting Major General and appointed as the Commander of the 4th Infantry Division, while Brigadier General Keith Katungi has been promoted to Acting Major General and will now lead the 5th Infantry Division.

The new establishment allows the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi, to promote army officers to acting positions and ranks, pending approval by the Commander-in-Chief, President Museveni.

If approved, this would be the third time Museveni has promoted senior army officers and confirmed officers from junior ranks to senior ranks this year.

In January, Museveni promoted 282 senior officers and confirmed 13 officers from junior ranks to senior ranks.

In July 2024, he promoted 898 officers and confirmed 20 from junior ranks to senior ranks.
