A high-level delegation from the Rwandan Defence Forces (RDF),has arrived in Uganda for a strategic three-day meeting with officials second Infantry Division of the Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF).
The engagement, held in Mbarara City, aims to review the progress of bilateral cooperation agreements made during a previous meeting in Nyagatare, Rwanda, three months ago.
The RDF delegation, led by Brig. Gen. Nelson Rwenjema, was received by Brig. Gen. Paul Muhanguzi, the Division Commander of the UPDF’s 2nd Infantry Division.
The visit underscores the ongoing efforts to strengthen security and cooperation between the two forces.
Maj. Kiconco Tabaaro, Public Relations Officer of the 2nd Division, confirmed the delegation's arrival and outlined the agenda for the meeting.
"The purpose of the meeting is to review resolutions from our previous meeting and address key security issues in border communities. We will assess the implementation of those resolutions and chart a way forward," Maj. Tabaaro stated.
He noted that the discussions would focus on the progress of implementing resolutions from the Nyagatare conference, particularly those addressing security concerns and challenges faced by border communities, including cross-border trading and the movement of illegal items.
“The presidents of Uganda and Rwanda have frequently met to prepare and guide border communities on contributing to security mechanisms,” Maj. Tabaaro added.
“Both presidents have emphasized the importance of collaboration in maintaining peace and stability.”
The strategic meeting between the RDF and UPDF reflects the strong bilateral ties between Rwanda and Uganda and highlights the commitment of both nations to work together in maintaining peace and stability in the region.
