A storm's brewing in Ugandan politics, and the flashpoint is the national budget. The Permanent Secretary to the Treasury, Ramadhan Ggoobi, ruffled feathers in Parliament with comments MPs interpreted as downplaying their role in approving the budget.
Speaker Anita Among is taking a firm stance. She's firing off a warning letter to Ggoobi, reminding him that Parliament won't cede its power of the purse. Some MPs want a personal apology, while Minister Musasizi tries to calm the waters by assuring everyone Parliament remains in control.
But the controversy doesn't stop there. Legislators are also questioning a discrepancy between the presented budget of 52 trillion shillings and the claimed operational amount of 45 trillion shillings. They're demanding answers for this apparent 7 trillion shilling gap.
