In a major breakthrough, the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, in collaboration with the police, apprehended Mwesigye Amos, a suspected notorious land grabber operating within Gomba District. The arrest follows a series of fraudulent land deals that left Gomba residents victimized and evicted.
Details emerged during the court proceedings at the Masaka magistrate court, where Mwesigye Amon faces charges related to land fraud and eviction. Numerous Gomba residents accused him of selling windfall land, with one victim, Stephen Kagyenyi, allegedly defrauded of Shs300m under the promise of sixty acres of land
Aloysius Natwijuka, Chief Magistrate of Masaka District Court, remanded Mwesigye in custody for one day after failing to produce credible sureties for bail application.
Shockingly, post-court revelations unveiled additional claims of Mwesigye swindling 100 cows from individuals in exchange for Promised Land.
Despite the gravity of the charges, Mwesigye pleaded not guilty, prompting calls for a review of the State House Anti-Corruption Committee's methods by Kamuntu Ivan, also known as Majambere, who emphasized the need for a comprehensive investigation.
The case took a twist as it was revealed that Mwesigye's illicit activities extend back to 2020 when he, in collaboration with family members of late Nasanaeri Kinalwa, falsely claimed ownership of a titled land at Kamengo Gomba which belongs to Rushanganwa Frank, who had purchased it legitimately in 2003.
