The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Jane Frances Abodo has sanctioned two charges of terrorism, three charges of murder, three charges of aggravated robbery and one charge of Belonging to a terrorist organisation against an ADF commander captured by the UPDF recently.
Kyoto Abdul Rashid alias Njovu alias Tembo was earlier month captured by the UPDF on Lake Edward in an early morning operation where two of his fighters were killed whereas others managed to escape.
In a statement by the Office of the DPP, Njovu will soon be arraigned in courts of law to answer charges in respect to the attack in Queen Elizabeth National Park where two foreign tourists, Barlow David James and Geyer Emmarentia Cecilia and their Ugandan driver, Eric Alyai were shot dead and their vehicle set ablaze by terrorists.
According to the DPP, the ADF commander is also accused of torching two vehicles including aMercedes Benz cargo truck and a Toyota Land Cruiser but also stealing the passports, money and visa cards of the foreign tourists and identity card, employment card, and driving permit of the Ugandan were also taken.
“Prosecution–guided Investigations were commenced by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) and Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI). Consequently, Kyoto Abdul Rashid was arrested in an operation by the UPDF Marine Forces on Lake Edward. Two of his associates were shot dead and others managed to escape in a boat with their weapons,” the spokesperson of the DPP said.
She said Njovu will later today be produced to the Nakawa Chief Magistrates court to answer the said charges.
