Police have said that the arrest of suspects in the gruesome murder of state prosecutor, Joan Kagezi in 2015 should sound a warning to other criminals that wherever they go, they will be tracked and apprehended.

Speaking on Monday, police spokesperson, Fred Enanga commended the Criminal Investigations Directorate, ISO, Counter terrorism, office of the DPP and other stakeholders for playing crucial roles in pursuing “this long term wanted criminals.”

“As joint security agencies we pledge to continue using our full investigative resources to pursue all those responsible for violent crimes like these suspects behind the brutal murder of the late Joan Kagezi.  They have been evasive and in hiding for over eight years after the murder in 2015 but they have finally been got,” Enanga said.

On Monday morning, four men including four men including Kibuuka John, Masajjage John, Kisekka Dan and Nasur Abdalla were arraigned before the Chief Magistrates Court in Nakawa and charged with terrorism and murder.

Two of these including John Kibuuka and Nasur Abdallah Mugonole  are currently serving sentences  after being convicted of aggravated robbery charges and were brought to court from  Kigo and Kityala Mini Maxi prisons.

On the other side John Masajagge is on remand at Kitalya, on a separate charge whereas Kisekka Daniel Kiwanuka was arrested recently and was brought from police on Monday.

Kagezi was shot dead by unknown gunmen in March 2015 as she returned home in Kiwatule.

President Museveni in 2018 linked Kagezi’s murder to Allied Democratic Forces.

He would later say that the main suspect in the murder plot of the state prosecutor was hiding in one of the countries in Europe.

He asked the DPP to go after the suspect.

However, in response, the DPP Jane Frances Abodo said the suspected killer had not been returned back home to stand trial since there was need to have a treaty with the said country alleged to be harbouring Kagezi’s killers.

Abodo said that the European country in question disagrees with death penalties which are in the laws of Uganda, adding that this exacerbated the extradition of the suspect to stand trial back home.
