Supporters of the regulation insist that social media has increasingly become a breeding ground for falsehoods and misinformation, attributing these digital waves of unverified information to threats against lives and property in Nigeria.
They point to numerous instances where unchecked information shared on social platforms triggered panic, violence, and social instability. In their view, it is imperative to introduce measures to curb the dissemination of such potentially harmful content in the name of national security.
