Armed thugs follow businessman, shoot him dead while entering home, rob sh80m

Police in Kampala have kicked off the hunt for armed thugs who followed a businessman and shot him dead while entering his home and robbed cash amounting to shs80 million.

The incident according to the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Patrick Onyango happened at Nakilama cell, Kyengera Town Council in Wakiso district as 45 year old Lawrence Lutaseera, a business man was followed home by armed thugs.

“According to reports, at 10:28 PM, Lutaseera Lawrence and his wife, Kyazzike Norah Patricia, were returning home in his motor vehicle registration number UBG 169M. When they reached their gate, they called for Ssenyonga Rashid, the gateman, to open it for them. However, upon entering the compound, two unidentified men on a bodaboda, each armed with a gun, suddenly appeared and opened fire, shooting both Lutaseera and the gateman,” Onyango said.

He noted that the assailants proceeded to rob them of approximately shs80 million and their mobile phones.

The victims were quickly rushed to Doctor's Hospital Seguku for urgent medical attention, but sadly, they were pronounced dead upon arrival.

Onyango named the deceased as Lutaseera and the gateman who was opening for him.

He said police later combed the crime scene for any items of material value in terms of evidence and recovered 12 cartridge shells and seven live ammunition.

“ The motor vehicle, UBG 169M, was found at Doctor's Hospital Seguku, showing suspected blood stains on the seats, a broken driver's windscreen, and three bullet holes.”

“The bodies of the deceased have been handed over to the city mortuary for an autopsy. The car has been taken into custody at Nalumunye Police Station as part of the ongoing investigation.The police are working to uncover the circumstances surrounding this heinous crime, and the investigation is underway.”

Onyango however warned members of the public against moving with large sums of money, more so at night  which may attract thugs.

The development comes on the backdrop of an operation by the Directorate of Crime Intelligence in which a gang that was terrorizing mobile money agents and dealers.

These who were using a gun robbed from a police officer in Nsangi targeted mobile money agents whom they shot and robbed huge sums of money.
