President Museveni has appointed Hon Safia Juuko Nalule as the new Chairperson of Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC). She replaces Sylvia Ntambi whose term expired last year.
In his letter dated 23rd March 2021, to the Speaker of Parliament, the president also appointed Ojok Joel Cox as the Vice Chairperson of the commission.
Also appointed on the board are; Denise Tumusiime, Zaidi Ibrahim Edema and Sr. Mary Wasagali who will serve as new members of EOC.
“I hereby forward their names and Curriculum Vitae for Parliament approval,” the President says in the letter” Museveni said in letter to Kadaga.
Juuko serves as the elected woman representative for People with Disabilities, Central Region, Uganda in Uganda's tenth parliament. She replaces Sylvia Ntambi who was last year committed to court over corruption and abuse of office charges.
Ntambi and 9 other EOC officials were accused of 25 corruption cases including; causing financial loss, conspiracy to defraud, embezzlement, corruption, abuse of office among other offences.
The alleged offenses dated back to July 2018 and April 2019 at the EOC offices in Kampala. The investigation was worth over Uganda Shillings 120 million.
She was accused alongside Agnes Enid Kamahoro, 48; Moses Mugabe, 38; Mujuni Mpitsi, 49; Harriet Byangire, 37; Ronnie Kwesiga, 33; Evans Jjemba, 35; Manasseh Kwihangana, 39; Sarah Nassanga, 43 and Nicholas Sunday Olwor, 51.
However, in February, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) dropped corruption-related charges against Ntambi on grounds of lack of sufficient evidence from the State House Anti Corruption Unit.
